Headlamp ears

Hi there,
I am gradually working my way through the bike, tidying up the things which are looking tatty. The latest thing is the headlamp ears which look like this:
These are clearly home made and are pretty rough and ready. Am I right in assuming that the original ears would have had a slotted hole for the headlamp bolt? This lamp doesn't point straight ahead and without a slotted hole, I can't see any way to adjust it. If anyone has a photo of the genuine item, I'd be pleased to see it - better still, if anyone has a pair for sale, please let me know! Another issue with these is that the headlamp is slightly narrower than the mounts, so these ears, which are flat, point awkwardly inwards - should the original have a couple of bends in it to help line things up?
