C Spanner for Exhaust Ring

Post by JonnyP »

Is there a special type of C Spanner needed to loosen the 500 exhaust ring nuts? I've measured it them 50mm diameter, but it looks like an adjustable 'hinged type' c spanner could foul against the fins. At the moment I don't have anything, so some guidance would be appreciated- thanks :)

Do make certain that the spanner (assuming you get one ) is properly located in the castellation to stop them getting chewed. They may be recalcitrant. If you have any issues don't hesitate to ask because you do not want to strip the internal thread in the head. Behind is a pair of collets and a circular gasket.
If they come out I clean the threads of any carbon carefully and use a moly grease, Optimol TA , the same stuff I use on my airhead exhaust rose nuts. ( if its good enough for BMW etc...)

If anyone is still looking for an exhaust nut wrench could I recommend the ones produced by Rick Stemp? I received mine yesterday and it fits nicely and is a good thickness. The thread about them was in the “for sale” section. No connection etc!

I would echo Vernon's comments above - the spanner that I bought from Rick fits the castellations very well indeed, seems to be sturdy with a suitable length of handle so as to get sufficient torque on the nut but without the handle length getting in the way of other parts - a big thanks, Rick.

Adios,
Charles

Have you still got a 350 spanner available. Tried to send a PM but don't know if I succeeded!
