Valve clearances.

Post by jeanster »

So I'm 100% certain, what are the correct clearances (cold) inlet & exhaust on 500 Strada? I only have the 31/2 manual and it states 0.1mm which I suspect as being correct. MRC "tech tips" states 1.0mm. in carb balance section which I think may be a "typo".

Jeanster, you are correct. Inlet and exhaust clearances on all models should be 0.10 mm when engine is cold.

I have amended the value on the carb balance page, well spotted

The blue manual is a little misleading here, it says Valve timing (1.0 mm valve clearance for checking).
It really means, open up the valve clearances to 1mm when checking the valve timing with a timing disc after a rebuild.

In fact, in the engine specs part of the manual, it does not give any other value for valve clearances.

Thanks for that. Not much of a clearance, especially on exhaust. Now waiting for Carbtune to arrive. Nearly there now resurrecting the Strada (cafe racer style, 2 into one exhaust, megaphone silencer, rearsets & clip-ons). Never see any about this end of the country (Paisley). Hopefully un-sorn next spring.
