Swinging arm grease points

Post by Tim »

I’m just refurbishing the swinging arm on my 1981 Sei and I’m a bit puzzled as to why there’s only one grease point - do people add a second one or am I missing something really obvious ??

There should be a grease nipple each side. If not in the centre of the swing arm pivot then on the swing arm itself feeding in from the outside. On the left it's usually moved inside because the exhaust pipe is in the way.

Right hand side it's on end of pivot left hand side it's an angled nipple on pivot but it's behind exhaust.

had a look at the swinging arm pivot and found the threaded hole that should have a grease nipple and found the clogged up hole where the grease is meant to emerg. Will fit new grease nipple when I re-assemble
thanks for the responses and pictures - much appreciated

When I got my Strada the left hand grease nipple looked like it hadn't been used for a while. I pumped grease in several times until the grease oozed out. At first it was blacker than coal and not at all greasy but I carried on greasing until fresh grease oozed out. You need to check after the first ride as grease will continue oozing out I checked after 2 or 3 rides and it stopped after about 100 miles. Swinging arm feels smooth now 💪

I understand that there used to be a modified bolt available which included a grease nipple, specially for when you are using Tarozzi rearsets. This is because the rearset bolt screws into the grease nipple hole. Does anyone know whether you can still obtain this modified bolt?
