Starter Sprocket Spindle Nut

Post by JonnyP »

Hi all, please can anyone shine a light on how to tighten the nut on the centrifugal starter spindle? This is with the shoe assembly in place within the engine side cover. As you'll realise, the spindle simply turns with the nut. You can't get a spanner in, and using a socket prevents access to the flats on the spindle end that would normally be used to stop it turning. Thanks for any guidance!

The spindle and the starter clutch are a taper fit, so clean the taper and lightly tap the starter clutch on to the spindle then tighten it up with a socket.
