Re: 501 with PHBH28 - needle valve size?
Hi Pete, not clear what you mean regarding needle valve size?
501 28mm PHBH carbs have the following size jets etc:
Pilot 42, Main 76, Starter 50, Atomizer BC264, Needle X18 (2nd groove) and 40 slide. Same spec for all 501 Camels including 501Coguaru.
These values were taken from the bikes which all ran well.
Trust this will help, take care Ian

This configuracion works with the original air filter for the 501 engines (Custom o Enduro). Using the motor in a street frame with their filter system you have to use a bigger main jet (about 130).

I think he means float needles and 2.5mm sounds big. You may be prone to flooding.

Yes, float needle valve.501 28mm PHBH carbs have the following size jets etc:

I needed "standard" settings for everything, this was the only item I couldn't find reference to anywhere.
Its fitted with 250 now which I suspected is too big. Flooding makes sense.
I'll order some parts
thanks

Re: 501 with PHBH28 - needle valve size?
I recall the 350's using 1.5mm, which isn't available any more and having to use 2mm.
You can always upgrade to 2-stroke float needles. They have a sprung tip for more reliable sealing under vibration etc.

Re: 501 with PHBH28 - needle valve size?
Hi Pete, just checked the float needle valves on my 501 carbs, which are 250.
Also looked at 500 carbs (26mm PHBH) which have 200 float needle valves.
Hope this helps? Have fun, Ian

Hi Norbert, which street frame filter system/air box: 500 or 350?This configuracion works with the original air filter for the 501 engines (Custom o Enduro). Using the motor in a street frame with their filter system you have to use a bigger main jet (about 130).

my configuracion is a bit out of the usual one:
pilot and starter 50, main jet 130-135, needle X18, atomizer 268T and 50 slide
Unusual is the slide 50 and the wider atomizer 268T. I guess it works because the more gasoline (because of the wider atomizer with the usual X18 needle) is equalized because of more air because of the slide 50. I don´t know but it works fine since about 70 000 km, consuming about 5 - 5,5 l/100km going a bit sportive. A 501 needs a bit more fuel than a 350 I can do about 200 km till opening the reserve. It´s runnig with an empty original filter box of the 350.
With my new project Dulcinea I will begin with the the same configuracion, perhaps with a bigger mainjet because of K+N filters. If everything goes as expected I´ll know about april/may if it works, then I let you know.

Re: 501 with PHBH28 - needle valve size?
Any news on this yet Norbert?
Re: 501 with PHBH28 - needle valve size?
Well, yesterday I startet the motor for the first time with the configuracion mentioned above and the ignicion more or less. It runs and seems to rise the revolucions very easily (there are some gr taken of the crank, primary, valve drive and clutch )
I´ll try to finish the bike in may to do the maiden voyage in june towards the german mmeting in the black forrest via Madrid (the spanih meeting will be one weekend before). That will be a great adventure, some call it crazy

It will be interesting to see how you get on, I like the way you have tucked the pods out of the airstream, any chance of a close up of both carbs? I really like the Excalibur white faced clocks, I thought mine was the only one using them!

It´s all very narrow on this bike unless the driver
Yes, the clocks are the best and only from the Excalibur(except the motor) Only that they already stop at 180 km/h at least there is no stopper, so you cn turn it around
