Brake light switch

I need a new rear brake light switch for a Mk1 Camel. It's an M8 x 1.25 fitting, with a slim body (13mm nut, 40mm overall length) and continuity when the plunger/button is released. It doesn't look like Mdina have them (though I haven't mailed them yet) and a quick google search hasn't shown up anything that looks compatible, but surely there must be something… Anyone got any ideas?

I don't really want to have to fit a cable with an inline switch or bodge up a pull switch.

The switch is the same as on the later 501 Camels/350 Kanguro 46.01.89, the same switch was used for the side stand and the rubber cap/boot is 46.01.55

Ian, thanks for the part numbers. I just checked with Mdina and they don't have them, so I'm looking for an alternative source. They must fit something else too!

That switch is a difficult one-I haven't been able to find a replacement either. I resorted to a cable inline switch and no, I don't really like them either!

I think most Morinis used the same switch, my Camel came with one that had a fatter body from another bike, an early 350 road bike or did they always have a switch as part of the rear cable?

About 8 years ago when I needed one NLM only had the hydraulic brake type.

Yet with lots of brake/clutch cleaner and WD40 I got the switch working again.

Perhaps a switch from a Cagiva etc?

This might work for you, but you will need deep pockets, and you will need to modify the wire terminals on your bike, but is similar to the old CEV switch.

At the other end of the price spectrum, these fit the Tarozzi rearsets often used on road 350's, but are a 6mm thread (and very cheap they are too!)

Depends on how original you want to be. Lots of car accessory shops will sell you a generic brake switch, but usually a 10mm thread, or there are zillions of honda/yamaha/suzuki etc 'universal switches available that can easily (if not elegantly) be made to work. If all else fails, then a cable with integral switch may be worth looking at?

I must have a box with (new!) switches somewhere, I have to venture out for a German guy as he asked for one earlier. After I moved to my new place I seem to have "lost" much stuff in my parts stack..

Ah, the Kangaroo wheel… I need to visit the lock-up and try and find it. It's easier to find time to buy stuff on eBay while sitting in the office than do anything practical. Bear with me.

Thanks Ian, according to the advert it has a 7mm thread. I seem to remember an 8mm fine thread being used? e.g. M8 x 1mm pitch?
