Camel woodruff key

Post by forzamacchi »

Hello everyone,
I am the new owner of an 81' Camel. The bike is just about to hit the road after some upgrades and repairs. The bike had been running rough and I discovered a sheared woodruff key. Does anyone have the correct measurements so I can source a new one? I have temporarily created my own by cutting down a larger key, but this is obviously a short term solution.
Thanks in advance!

If you mean the key which locates the flywheel / stator, I don't think it's essential as there are no 'trigger points' involved (apart from the timing marks), so the running of the bike will not be affected. The taper and torque of the nut should hold the flywheel in place adequately. I may have a spare key I can measure (if I can find it's 'safe' storing place).

Welcome Ben, which model is it? How about some pics?

Presuming you are talking about the alternator rotor key according to what I can see it's part number 28.01.16 and dimensions are 3 x 5R 6.5

You will find this a pretty handy resource..

Yes! That was the location I was referring to.... I actually think what happened is that I loosened, inspected then failed to re tighten....lol.... Thank you! Ben

Hello Kamel,
It is an 81' MK1 Camel. Ming was correct as I was talking about the flywheel over the stator. WOW! That is a fantastic resource. Thank you so much! Ben

Hello again Kamel,
The dimensions of the woodruff key would be 3mm wide, 5mm high, 6.5mm long? Thanks, Ben

Hey Ben, apologies, I've been busy with other classic vehicle ownership issues. :(

Yes i believe that is the right way to read the dimensions.

How about posting some pics?

This is my recently completed Camel Mk2 (well I think it's a Mk2)....
