Thought i'd bore you all with my spring project. Not sure what year it is but its a 250cc Settebello GTI. I think they called it a Typhoon or Tornado in the states. I thought this would be an easy project but there's some trauma in the top end. The piston showed bad wear marks in the vertical plane. Rings are broken. Oil control ring missing. The ring land above the top recess in the piston is broken. Not sure what went wrong here. The gudgeon pin bushing looks like its been hammered. The ends are flared around the rod opening. The rod is drilled to allow oil into the gudgeon pin but the bushing was not drilled to match. I'm not sure if it left the factory this way or some half ass repair is to blame. Seems like the bushing should be drilled to allow oil into the pin.

I started the motor tear down last night. Its slow going with the impact screw driver. I removed the bearing support plate and started on the clutch springs. Two of the spring bolts broke off and a third is stripped. I can uncrew the button but it just spins. Anyone seen this before? Not sure how to get it out and its the last bolt. Maybe drill a hole in the middle where I can get a screwdriver in to hold the bolt while unscrewing the button? BTW the NLM clutch button tool works perfectly on this motor. Hope you can tell by the pictures that the design is very similar to the Morini 3 and 1/2.

Pics on the way.
