175 Turismo oil filter

Hi, I'm pleased to report that after many months endeavour I've finally got the engine to run on my 175 Turismo - the first time I've experienced this
since I bought it in Italy many years ago. It sounds healthy and I'm keen to progress now to getting it into rideable condition asap. So, first priority
is to change the engine oil and clean the filters. But, having removed the sidecover to access the internal filter I've found that the two slot-headed screws
that hold the cover onto this filter are incredibly tight and, despite reasonable efforts with my impact screwdriver they are reluctant to being undone. I'm loath
to apply excessive force to such venerable alloy in this area. Despite its age (59 years) the engine does not show signs of previous mechanics' abuse !
Does anyone here think that I should persist in getting this filter to bits ? I have cleaned the other (lower) one but there wasn't much inside to clean out
anyway. I'd greatly value the opinion of those on this forum who have more experience of such situations please. Thanks in anticipation !
