Started another project Strada 1973
A few month's ago a had the opportunity to an early Strada
The A2 3202 with first series engine.
How to recognise those early strada's ? (Thanks to Werner from the German Morini-scene, he discribed it in the last Strega's)
Notice the full allu inlets and other valvecovers
Gearlever is steel and no grip on the frame
Bigger hole on the clutch side, previuos owner filled it up
No ABC size on the beltpully
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the moment is to hot to drive, so we could spend some time in the garage.
Did a compressiontest first and got 10 bar in front and 11 in the other cylinder
The engine is laying on the workbench ... time to investigatie what we bought
The odometer says 23.000 but .........
Removed the heads and cylinders and found the missing 1 bar, the pistonring of the front cylinder was stuck
With some WD40 and some patience the ring is free again.
The engine was very clean inside.... really 23.000 km's ????
Measured the pistonrings as discribed in the book.
Perfect 0.20 mm
Pistons in great shape too;-)
No complains about the valves so far (have to remove them) but this looks ok
To be continued

Re: Started another project Strada 1973
some parts, ready to be rechromed
Re: Started another project Strada 1973
There wasn't a lifting handle on the 78 Strada that recently went through my workshop.
The crankcases look like 250 twin version. Roller bearing engines wouldn't have needed the plain bearing draw-in/press out screws.

Re: Started another project Strada 1973
Yeah Paul,
It's an early engine, one off the first 250.
The parts off the housing d''ont have maching numbers.
Guess it had push rod damage.
other side is damagefree
Other pushrods , bolds too ?

Re: Started another project Strada 1973
Looking nice!
So you are keeping the original wiring then? It would seem such a temptation to redo it all...

Vrrooom!
Re: Started another project Strada 1973
Never had any problems with the morini wiring, so why renewing it ?
Re: Started another project Strada 1973
Thats looking very nice, I agree use the existing wiring. It would take hours to make a new loom ,unless you are an electrical wizard.
Re: Started another project Strada 1973
Still waiting for the chromed parts.
I't's time to open the marzocchies
Bought a set seals and rubbers in Italy http://www.suspensionzana.com
The job was very easy
And got new rims and a golden chain
