Early sport
Re: Early sport
Looks like a good job.....you've got probably the hardest part to do. I helped a friend replace a damaged trail bike rim years ago.....looked a simple job, but what a PITA
Witness marks on the hub give big clues as to the original spoke orientation. Alternate holes will probably have similar on the 'inside' face. A starting point, at least.

Re: Early sport
Looking good, I am also rebuilding an old Sport, but from a pile of parts (see other post about the crank). Mine has framenumber 5009... The engine number is only applied to exportmodels, in Italy you won't find engines with numbers...

Re: Early sport
The engine came to me in parts. Very rough and incomplete. I've been working with someone to resolve that.

From the length of those drive belts you have one of those extremely rare OHC engines

Re: Early sport
I saw some rusy bits, but a crank that rusty is somewhat overdone... Was it underwater?

Re: Early sport
Yes, most of the parts were pretty trashed. I purchased a partial engine (bottom end) from a fairly local Morini owner. Found a nos racing cam and traded it for a nos sport cam. The cylinders were rusted so we bored them to 375 and purchased new pistons from NLM. We are able to use the numbers matching case so that is a bonus. I'm sure there will be other issues but one thing at a time

Re: Early sport
I noticed a slight difference in the front hubs between the early bike and the '74. They added a lip for a rubber seal on the drive side cover plate on the '74. On the early bike, the inside of the cover plate does not have a lip and is symmetrical (other than the opening for the speedo drive).

Re: Early sport
Mine is the same (although a Benelli Tornado one). This rubber seal is important to protect the drum from the grease of the speedo drive. It took me a year to find one (the seal, to find the brake took some more years ).
Dulcinea once was a `74 Strada but has become a bit more sporty now This project took me nearly 15 years, but now it´s done
