A ride out making the most of the salt free roads, I came across the following piece of English history..

Looks vaguely familiar. Its not Marston Moor is it?
We spent the afternoon on Carr Naze, Filey watching the snow buntings. It wouldve been a belter of a day to get a bike out though. I was surprised to see that the bike cafe at Staxton was closed given the glorious weather, but having said that we saw only a couple of bikes out and about.

The roads were damp, New year's sales, DIY, hangover, not the 'season'...

Praps the old memory isnt as bad as Id feared :) its been a few years since I was in the area on a cycle ride. Sobering to think of the numbers that died on that field isnt it?
Thanks for the pictures. That Morini looks well, much better than one sitting in a garage

Battle of Towton, not far away, I'll do that one next.

Battle of Boroughbridge, Northallerton, Harewood, Stamford Bridge. Good area for battles. Just gearing up for the 2019 war of Independence! :)

Part 2. Any offers of significance of this field? Mr Greybeard?

Bit breezy out today!

Only if it's Towton that you mentioned before, MM - but I'd be guessing  You did well to get out on the bike today, it's been pretty grim over this side of the Wolds today and that wind is really building up now.
I can see that I'm going to have to get my finger out (as well as the bike) to add some pics to this post. It could run for quite a while.

I was given time off for good behaviour (filled the skip) so went for a ride.

Mr GB, here are the photos of today's battlefield. Any ideas?

Would it be near the bridge where a distant relative of mine was given a steel enema in 1066?
We'll have to meet up for a brew at some point in the near future if youre gettng that far east.

Gotcha. Nothing to do with Chelsea.

It is a 'bridge...

I was thinking of 'Stamford Bridge' where a lone Viking is reputed to have held back Harold and his mates single handed on the bridge until some sneaky bugger stuck his spear up through the bridge deck from below and damaged the Viking's family jewels

Yes, but wrong bridge. That one meant those damned Normans took over... Bloody Vikings...

Give up? 1322...

Yup, you got me on that one  Im embarrassed to admit I knew nowt about that one. I guess Ive buggered up my chance of adding Stamford Bridge to the list now :D
Im currently down in Bridgend, South Wales visiting youngest daughter. If the weather up there has been owt like here, youve had some cracking riding weather.
I must say, I do like that Strada. A nice looking machine.

Battle of Boroughbridge.

Next month was going to be Stamford Bridge, a turning point in the history of the British Isles, but Mr GB has ruined that one. I'll try and become more inventive with the next one.
