Hi Mark, fitted the slides today and they made quite a difference! I recently replaced the needles and needle jets/pulverisers along with the pilot jets. All standard sizes for the Camel. The slides have been a finishing touch and improved things again. I was aware mine were a little worn but had not been too concerned about it. Obviously they were more worn than I realised, the bike is now running smoother than ever and better than any of the 500's I've previously experienced.
So the moral of the story? Buy a stock of these while they are available!
Thanks again Mark, posted it here in case it encourages anyone else to splash out (even at the price of new ones it's probably worth it)

Hi,Steve
Glad the helped.
Yes - its very much overlooked that wear on the slides causes bad running. Its even more so with the flat slides in the VHB(Z)25. People often assume that since the spring arrangement holds the slide against the engine side that all is good.

For a VHB(Z) 25 with standard 260 atomizer (diameter 2.60mm) and E17 needle(diameter 2.45mm) it should be clear that the combined wear of fit of needle in slide + slide wear + carb body wear cannot exceed 0.075mm or the needle will rub against the atomiser on the engine side in the critical progression region. A similar calculation can be done for the 26mm carbs or any other slide carb.

Its not obvious that wear in the atomiser has occurred, nor is it easy to measure.
Cheers
Mark
