ignition timing

Hi. Could someone please help me with the correct ignition timing proceedure for the 175 Tourismo. I cant find it anywhere in my records. Degrees before top dead center or measurement etc etc. Thanks in advance.

Bob, I have got 2 owner manuals of 2 different 175cc models. As I am the administrator of this forum (and can manage users), I looked up your email address and will send those 2 manuals over.

Thanks but the timing data isnt included in the manuals. There must be a record somewhere of the technical data, what about all the piston ring gap and clearances to bore cleances? I cant see how anyone could rebuilt an engine properly without more data?

page 27 & 29 on this manual gives the data depending on engine type, hope your italian is any good

If the data is not there you may have to talk to an expert who knows standard tolenrances for (Italian) bikes from that era

Thanks Tintin. Thankfull Tony found the timing data for me in a GT manual, I had it all along , just couldnt read it!

Here is a question. Is my bike a late Tourimo or an early Tresette?

You're welcome!

To me, your bike seems more like a Tresette. To be really sure, you should have a look at the cilinderhead/rocker cover.



I have got an excellent article from the Italian motorcycle magazine "Motociclismo d'Epoca".
It shows the various 175cc models and the differences. The picture above is from that article.

This is a 100% Tresette, but seems to have a Tresette Sprint toolbox:



Aparantly, this black Tresette a later model with different toolbox and different/longer fuel tank.

If anyone else was seaching for the same information about timing its 9 degrees BTDC. Total with auto advance fully open its 40 degrees.
