Re: Wayward rev counter.
Luckily I wear a pisspot helmet so could tell it wasn't the clutch slipping. So reliant on the rev-counter as the speedo is more like a windscreen wiper. Cheers.

Re: Oil consumption
Heya. Dipstick genuine 500 one, just like in the book! 3 litres of oil registers "a gnats cock" ( about 1mm) below the maximum mark and 2.5 litres is just above the minimum mark. Ie, if I run it on 2,5 litres, it only needs to consume 200 mils and it'll be Off the bottom of the dipstick, w...

Re: Generator woes
I've had rewound one's on several bikes, no morini tho, and if the insulation is burnt off its usually leads to later issues, yours has almost certainly been burnt off and hand rewound if done by West Country, . The Green powder coat is usually re-applied post burning off. Get it re-wound at rexs re...

Re: Generator woes
No but it looks like it's happened to that one before, think that's been "re-wrapped " by West Country windings. When you get it re-wound, use someone who doesn't burn the old stuff off.

Re: Oil consumption
Thanks for that Paul, mine is a 1978 350 sport chassis but in 2009 a previous owner had a 500 engine put in. According to the paperwork a whole engine and carbs not just top end. With the engine drained whilst hot and left overnight to fully drain, then refilled it takes 3 litres which just sits on ...

Re: Oil consumption
Thanks for further information, the top end was completely rebuilt with one new barrel and rebored new pistons etc and new shells and bottom end is clean as a whistle so I have no concerns regarding good quality semi synthetic 10w 40, dry clutch too. Re breathers, I ride most dry days all year round...

Re: Oil consumption
Thanks gents, all views welcome, re running in I followed stuarts advice and it was pretty much what I have done previously on new and old bikes..variety of distances, Town, faster a and b roads. After 750 kms, I dropped the running in oil, washed the screen and put in 3 litres of silkolene 10w40 se...

Oil consumption
After a top end rebuild and new shells, I ran my 350/500 sport in carefully, decent length rides and keeping revs down with occasional bigger fistful, gradually building up towards 7,000rpm. Not unexpectedly she drank a bit of oil first 800ks or so and I expected that to settle down once properly ru...

Wayward rev counter.
The Rev counter on my 78 350/500 previously reliable, has today started to flip right round to 10,000 rpm once it's gets past (a genuine) 6,000. The engine is raving normally, just the rev counter acting strangely. It seems normal and accurate below 6,000. Any ideas gents? Thanks.

Re: mid-bike crisis!
Well all doubt has been suspended, I had the recentish revelation that i may be slowing down. Had my morini sport a year now and despite a four months off the road for engine re-build and some modded rear sets I have done 4000 kiloflogs. I wondered if I could live with an older bike on a daily basis...
