I remove steering dampers when fitted to any bike I have owned. I think it is a bodge for handling issues.

I have just looked at my old pistons, one of which has a crack near the gudgeon pin . Same number as you have. I’ve just tapped out these pins if tight but usually they are not. A very gentle tap with my light glazing hammer and an old nail ( suitably named!) No points for hitting the casting though.
