If you are using the left-side changeover linkage(s), it will always be difficult. Have to disagree with this in regard to the 350K2 model, the cross over is well designed and the shaft properly supported both ends so no reason to have unnecessary 'slack' in the linkage. Another way to get a shine on black painted pipes is to use fire grate polish, eg Zebo, although the finish is more gunmetal than black :

Just to recommend the above source in Italy for bronze castellated nuts - a pair cost me £44 delivered (so about 1/2 the cost of stainless versions). They are very good quality and the proprietor is used to UK customers and google translations
