Hi Mark, can't you adjust the friction on the handlebar choke lever so that it stays in position?
I agree that the carb mounted lift up levers tend to be easier and more reliable in use with no sticking cables etc.
Have fun, Ian

Re: Smoking Engine - Any thoughts?
Hi, the later rocker covers (with the banjo type breather outlet) although having the same crows feet spacing they also have additional cooling fins on the inside.
Can't comment on the very early rocker covers: but aesthectically they look better?

Re: Alternator upgrade?
Later I did try to find someone to rewire/rewind the stator using all 6 coils for charging the battery, but at the time nobody (tried 4 specialists) on receiving my alternator was willing to change it unless I gave them the values: warranty was the usual reason. One having spun it on a test rig to m...

Re: Alternator upgrade?
Hi, are you using the original Morini (Ducati Electronica) alternator to charge a battery with a Sachse ignition system receiving power form the battery or is it a complete Sachse system: alternator and ignition? If you're using the original alternator have you wired the 5 charging coils together or...

Re: Smoking Engine - Any thoughts?
Hi, measured the rocker covers from a 350 Dart & 501 Coguaro which are identical and from a 500 Sport & 350 Kanguro, again identical. On all the above rocker covers the crows feet are the same position, plus the breathers are the same dimensions. Therefore you can mix and match the 350/500/5...

Re: Smoking Engine - Any thoughts?
Hi, I only mentioned the porous cylinders as for some reason the rear one usually weeps more oil from the push rod tunnel than the front: I agree with your thoughts that the nikasil acts as a barrier.
Is it usual practice to deglaze nikasil bores when replacing rings?
Take care, Ian

Re: Smoking Engine - Any thoughts?
Hi, I've been following the thread and the most obvious solutions have already been tried. Still clutching at straw suggestions: Are you using a 501/500 (catch tank) or 350 breather system (labyrinth/s in the pipes)? You could try running it to atmosphere on clear through breather pipes just to test...

Hi, 500 Camels have lighter flywheels than the 500 road Morinis (with the starter drum removed).
Have fun.

Re: 501 engine bearings and seals
Hi Tom, checked the Camel 501 parts book again and the drive side main bearing is: Part code 24.01.11 Bearing 633250 (same as the 500) and the size is listed as 30x72x19 which must be an error. I've just measured an original bearing I removed from a 500 5 speed years ago and it is 33x72x19 so it mus...

Re: Frame paint colours?
Hi, all cycle parts/frame colour combinations are possible in red/black, particularly with the later 6 speed 500s.
Best to paint it in the combination that you like and enjoy!
