Re: fork issue. help
Hi, Morini/Marzocchi fork seals are a common size and are no plroblem to replace. First I'd check the ammount of oil in the forks and top them up just to get home this weekend provided any leaking oil isn't reaching the brakes, tyres etc. In the early 90s I had a leaking fork seal and as I didn't re...

Re: Mki Restoration Complete
Hi, the only Camels with black painted crankcases, cylinders and heads were some very late MkII 500s (MkIII UK) and the 501s. Steel Mk1 tanks are all slightly different to each other which suggests they were made indivdually: someone only just recently suggested that they were made in the UK which I...

Re: 501 manifold rubbers
Hi, OFF ROAD ONLY www.oro2u.com do loads of universal filters with straight/angle/elbow connector flanges and some have a cover over the pod filter. You could tuck these filters under the tank of a 500?
hope it helps, have fun.

Re: Strada starter motor
Hi, it can be done if you have all the right parts. I think most 500/501 crankcases already have the recess for the dowels(2) so thats not a problem. If your bike still has the 6v dc / 12v ac system you'll need to convert to 12v with a new stator (rewound? look on Dutch Morini site) and regulator re...

Re: Camel
Hi, looks all original, yet as it has a glassfibre tank it's probably not a UK bike, but is that be a problem as it appears to be a nice bike ?

Re: 6 speed gears question
Hi, the 500 final drive spocket and shaft are splined, whilst the 350 spocket and shaft has two flats, so it looks like a 350 ?
hope this helps

Re: Wheel Bearings front and rear
Hi, I've never done 350 front wheel bearings, but just to avoid any confusion don't attempt to remove the speedo gear from the wheel as you'll wreck both the wheel and the drive in the process. I'm certain danomar meant the driven speedo gear and it's housing (the casting you attach the cable to) bu...

Re: Head Bearingings
If you can get a pair of 'cups' for the taper roller bearings from a later Camel, Kanguru etc, they will fit straight into 350/500 road bike head stock: the bearings are a standard size and new ones are easily available from a bearing supplier.

Re: Box thing with pipes
Hi, if it is the same box as the 500 road bikes & 500/501 Camels the large bottom outlet to the crankcase, two nearside upper pipes to the rocker covers and the two offside pipes either to the air box or the atmosphere (mine go to the chain near the swinging arm but not a good idea if you only d...

Re: Removing the starter/flywheel disc?
Hi again, I've had no problems swopping rotors over the years on 500/501 Morinis, yet they have all been post 1978 and it matters not wheter they are 6v/12v or have the starter drum fitted. The only difference I've noted is that the 500 camels have lighter rotors (flywheels) than the road bikes. We'...

Re: Removing the starter/flywheel disc?
Hi, you could swop with someone who wants a rotor with a starter drum? The best way to remove the drum is to have an engineering shop cut it off in a lathe and it's not a big job; as you say best to leave the rivets well alone. I had a chewed up starter drum removed by this method years ago and no p...
Re: Chains
Hi, the 520 conversion should be straight forward as the 501 camel uses this width; (19.01.39) engine 14 teeth and (43.22.14) rear 46 teeth. Both sprockets fit straight on a road 500 (mine had 14/45 fitted and the gearing was really too high for pillion work). I've found that HD Regina chains (Gold ...

Re: Mk 1 Camel Info. required
Hi Derek, It does sound like the same bike and not surprising really as there are only a few around. I'm in South Wales and as my son is in Leicester Uni I'll be in your neck of the woods during October half term but also intend to visit family in Northamptonshire too, so time might be tight. We cou...

Re: Excalibur / Coguaro engine mount bracket
Hi, the Cougaro has a different frame from the mono shock Camel and Kanguro (square tubes) which have the same slotted road bike front plates (kinked frame) so I don't think there will be room for the later starter, hopefully I'm wrong.
