Re: Mk 1 Camel Info. required
Hi Derek, Simon Powell contacted me about 9 years? ago as he had a Mk1 Camel with seat, side panels and speedo moulding missing and wondered if I could help. It also had disc brake forks from a Guzzi? but he had just bought forks, front wheel and engine from a UK Mk2 (Mk1a) Camel which had been chop...

Re: Mk 1 Camel Info. required
Hi Derek, the fibre glass tank of my late Camel hasn't been lined that's why I keep an eye on it. Dates of genuine UK Camels imported by Harglo; Mk1s are usually X or Y reg and the Mk2s (Mk1a) I've seen have been A or B reg. Just to confuse things my later imported 500 Camel is A reg. There appears ...
Re: 501 carbs
Hi, if it has a 501 motor it will run much better with the original 28mm carbs, even low down it will respond much better and cleaner.
The 501 carburation is generally much better than the 26mm carb 500.

Re: Mk 1 Camel Info. required
Yes the UK Mk1 and Mk2 (also known as Mk1a) had steel tanks. The Mk1 steel tanks are all slightly different suggesting they were individually fabricated. At the moment I'm running a late 500 camel with a fibre glass tank and have no problems in the past 3 years apart from the small capacity; I do ke...

Re: Mk1 Sahara / Camel wanted
Hopefully you'll be lucky but there are not many Mk1s around. Some owners don't really know which model they have, so be certain it's a Mk1 before you travel to look at a bike. I know of one situation where the owner was so insistent he had a Mk1 that he didn't need to send a photograph to the poten...

Re: Kanguro X3 frame
Hi, they are an interference fit, remove them from the inside with a long drift once removed you will see two small holes that allow the bearing race to be drifted out (if they need replacing).

Re: balance pipe
Hi, just do it ! The effect of the balance pipe is to make the exhaust quieter and let the engine flow better at high revs. I removed the balance pipe from a 1973 Triumph 500 and it was much smoother with a cleaner pick up low down but very loud; vibration meant that high revs were hardly ever explo...

Re: Oil loss
I agree, that it's probably not the heat as I've been in the centre of Spain in 40C+ with no problems. I wondered if all your breather baffles are present; in the rocker boxes and within the breather pipe/s. Most 500s & 501s have a more closed system with the same rocker box baffles and a catch ...

Re: Carb synchronisation
Hi, Scottoiler do brass vacuum fittings for intake rubbers, you get one in the oiler fitting kit; its got a shallow mushroom head on the inside and an external nut and locking washer. They will supply individual spares so they might be worth contacting, good luck, Ian

Re: Choke lever
Hi again, a universal choke lever will be easier to source - Magura or an Amal (air lever) British bike type are probably of better quality than the Morini one which has a plastic lever and is pretty basic, good luck

Re: Choke lever
Hi, on the 500 it's mounted under the clutch lever, there was also a handlebar mounted version that Harglo supplied as a kit to replace the individual carb flip up levers. I prefer the individual carb levers as the cables/junction box can stick in use. Hope this helps, Ian ps On some Guzzis I've see...
