And I think the 'S' was only stamped on the official UK imported Sports, but I may be wrong. The 'S' was stamped on the cases at the factory, possibly to identify the engine as sport specification whilst it was assembled. The differences are higher compression pistons (11:1 rather than 10:1) and a ...

I'd suspect that someone hadn't done the bolts up and the basket was moving on the dowels. A case of poor assembly.

HLP80 is hydraulic oil (Think JCB).

80 weight hydraulic (or gear) oil is equivilent to 30 weight fork (or engine) oil.

Marzocchi supplied Morini with so many different fork internals that anywhere from 5-30 weight might be right for your bike.

The breather/oil seperator is conical in shape and so will wedge itself in the rocker cover. You can easily prise it out with a screwdriver for cleaning.

Motorcycle monoshocks are one of the biggest conns around. They're fundamentally no different from a car unit, but are often more than three times the price. Try a Gazmatic from http://www.dampertech.co.uk/home.html or look on ebay (Italy) for a Bitubo which is more sensibly priced. You could also h...

I guess worth trying to blast the oil out with carb cleaner spray or petrol. NO, NO, NO! NEVER use petrol as a cleaning solvent. It was a bad enough practice years back, but with todays formulations it can be very dangerous. It's horribly toxic and can cause quite serious chemical burns if left on ...

I take it you currently have a single disc? In common with many 70's bikes, Morini used a mastercylinder that was really too big and gives the brakes a 'wooden' feel. If you're sticking with one disc, fit a 250 cylider (14mm bore rather than 16mm). They're about £50 new from NLM. If the chrome is g...

Note that the ball race probably has a C3 clearance. The main bearing specification might be in one of the later manuals, I'll check at home. The roller bearing conversion is worth doing on early engines (since it just drops in), but with later engines, I'd only bother if you're going to tune the en...

There is no such thing as a 'correct' colour for a Morini, or most older bikes. Colour matching between paint batches wasn't as good 20 plus years ago. There's always some 'rivet counter' who'll complain that some Triumph is not painted the correct shade of Aramanth Red. The owner is often smug in t...

Was the chrome perfect on the stanchions? If not then buying new ones isn't going to be that much more expensive than have the old ones re-chromed. http://www.discovolantemoto.co.uk/ have new stanchions available in rather better steel than the 'gas pipe' Marzocchi used. They cost about £70 each as...

For stanchions, consider buying new from Disco Volante in Wales. I can get re-chroming and grinding done for about £100, whilst the new stanchions are about £70 each.

I'd also buy springs new as most will have sagged over the years.

'Factory Original' Well that's a real challenge! With Morini you'd probably have to track down the bloke who actually built it. Morini didn't really seem to do 'standard' bikes. It really amuses me, particularly with old Brit bikes, when someone says 'That's the wrong shade of (whatever)'. Paints di...

Fork oil weight is all to do with what fork internals Marzocchi supplied that month (week, day, hour!?). You'll have to play around and see what suits your forks/you. It's always going to be a comprimise with damper-rod forks. Springs have often sagged over the years and a new set may work wonders, ...

The Kanguaro uses taper roller bearings to support the loads inherant in off road use. They can be difficult to set up right and are intolerant of imperfect allignment. Many modern motorcycles are going back to cup and cone. More often than not, the races aren't to bad (better than they look) and it...
