Re: new toy
I've always stuck to Shell V-Power, or other high octane pump fuels as much as possible, but had no running or starting issues with 95 octane. Poor starting, if the carbs are in good health and properly set up, can be down to a degraded ignition winding on the alternator, weak magnets in the rotor, ...

Re: Separating crankcases
As previously stated, the bearing should have been a slip fit on the crank. Make sure that's the case with a replacement bearing. Have the crankshaft sleeve polished to correct tolerance if required. There are two oil gallery screws on ball race cranks. One on the face of the timing side crank web, ...

1968 Corsarino ZT
I'm downsizing my motorcycle collection and the ZT is up for sale. The ad is up on Car & Classic and there's a video linked below. I have a couple of other bikes (non Morini's) on C&C too. https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1384035 https://youtu.be/xakhaGonFVc https://www.carandclassic.co....

Re: Separating crankcases
Heat up the case around the bearing to about 120C.
The case should then slide off the bearing with little effort.

Re: 125 WITH NO SPARK
The 125 has some unique features. The ignition is a crankshaft triggered 'wasted spark' system and the tachometer cable drive is from the right hand (timing) side. All the other air cooled V-twin based engines equipped with Capacitive Discharge ignition, EXCEPT the 125 single have camshaft mounted p...

Re: 125 WITH NO SPARK
for all others it is supposed to be 300 ohms I do wish this 300 ohm misinformation would go away. That may be what is written in the 'blue book' and it may well have been true at the time of writing, but it's a physical imossibility for the overwhelming majority of coils (I have come across a small...

Re: Separating crankcases
That frame number would be somewhere roughly around the bearing type change.

Re: 125 WITH NO SPARK
The timing issue can be solved with external resistors. The CDI modules just fire at a fixed trigger voltage. The advance curve is created by the interaction of that trigger voltage with the amplitude of the waveform from the pickup. The cutting out problem is the one that needs to be solved first. ...

Re: 125 WITH NO SPARK
The only thought that occurs, is that the charging coils could be shorted and resulting in the stator iron becomming magnetically saturated. This might prevent the ignition coil from producing enough voltage for the CDi module.

Re: Separating crankcases
You have the bosses for the bearing housing screws, but they've haven't been drilled and no screws are fitted. I've only ever seen that on 250 2C cases, which retained the ball race on the timing side. I would have to guess that they were made during the changeover to the plain bearing crankshaft.

Re: Separating crankcases
The early engines have a ball race on the timing side. When this was replaced by the plain bearing, Morini added three small cap head screws to the crankcase to pull in and retain the plain bearing housing. If you don't have these screws, then you have a plain bearing engine. The crank should be a s...

I use a hex bit from a 1/2 drive set. The top end takes a 10mm spanner and is large enough to be spun with your fingers.

Re: Yet another Excalibur 501 on eBay
The engine from that Excalibur is currently sitting on my worshop floor. I didn't buy the bike, but I've been overhauling a 500 sei engine (smoking due to a stuck oil control ring) that rurned out to also have a worn out gearbox. The owner of the engine bought the Excalibur for the gearbox. Very lit...

Re: Bronze starter gear
Only a week or so ago, I ordered and received a starter gear from Mdina, having used the "Notify me when this item is available" link. They too have them made in batches and try to actually hold stock, but aparently quite a few people were waiting and they are out of stock again. If you're...
