NLM had got very short of some 350 big end shell sizes, notably standard of which they had none. I did quite a lot of searching for alternative big end shells; No matches. I even talked to Federal Mogul who made the original shells, but the tooling is long gone and they wouldn't do a run of less tha...

You really need to get someone to turn up a drift for you. If you just use a socket or piece of round bar, you'll burr over the end of the spacer and have difficulty putting the bearings back in, or getting the spindle through. The drift should have a pilot diameter that's a close but sliding fit, t...

A common cause of a poor gear change is a dragging clutch. Check that out first.

If you use a 10W40 semi synthetic oil (Morini specified Agip SINT 2000 on late bikes) you won't go far wrong.

I don't know much about the wiring on the off road bikes, but there are diagrammes out there on the web.

NLM is North Leicester Motorcycles http://www.motomorini.co.uk The flywheel thread is common to a lot of Italian bikes. I've heard it said that MZ pullers will work and are only £4. The NLM puller is something like £7.80+vat. People will keep paying £20+ for pullers on ebay. George Lane has start...

It will get restored.

Sometime!

My workshop is too packed to even bring it home. It's in a very big shed on a friend's smallholding.

First I have to finish;

The Hydraulic workbench
The Motobi Tornado
The 501 engined Valentini
The electric Cagiva Freccia
etc.
etc.

Holly Crap! That Morini is worth $1,150 US dollars??? No, but it's worth £665. The exchange rate (weak Dollar) and the UK market make all the difference. What a result! How did you find out about that? Believe it or not I bought it off ebay. I got the vendors phone number and had a long chat. I al...

The Holy Grail of Morini twins remains the drum braked Sport, but lets face it they're all pretty rare. I don't know about the 350s but I figure mine to be worth around $3K. Having said that, I've seen them languish on Ebay and go for much less. Morinis suffer a bit from the same scarcity that make...

New (Old) Section

The North East Thames section has been vacant for some time (we seem to have no less than FOUR vacant sections at the moment) but no longer. I volunteer! I'd discussed it with Dave Marlow and had sent the magazine editor an email, but it must have disappeared into the email black hole and didn't mak...

That's the first time I've ever heard someone claim oil in the clutch improves it! (except on 125 and 250 2C where a dry clutch would mean BIG engine trouble) The clutch should be bone dry and have the dust cleaned out (common cause of grabby clutch) from time to time. Any oil on the plates tends to...

Avon AM20/21, Bridgestone BT45's, not much to chose between them. I find the Avons start sliding a little earlier and hold on a little longer, but it's very close. Mainly I use them becuase they're in stock locally, slightly cheaper and I prefer the look. Front; 90/90 Rear; 100 or 110/90 100/90 Fron...

Look at the holes around the hub.

The edges are sharp, no way were they cast, they're stamped.

The oil NLM normally recommend is 10W40 semi-synthetic. Morini themselves specified Agip SINT 2000 on the late bikes. Fully synthetic would be fine, but not really justified on cost. The better synthetics are effectively monogrades, but with such a high viscocity index that they behave like a multig...

Interesting question. The standard (deep grove) ball race doesn't seem to cause any problems, even on tuned engines, but Morini didn't usually do things without reason (particularly if it cost money). The split bearing is a 'four point contact bearing' and is designed more for axial loads than radia...

Have one machined up in stainless and fit a set of Igus Ilgidur(sp?) bushes. Unlike the useless nylon swingarm bushes of old, these are a propper engineering plastic and will perform as well as the bronze. I must admit I stick to Bronze, but I've got my own machine tools and can make them wheneve I ...
