Hi,
Does anyone in this distinguished community have a recommended Customs Agent to help me complete and navigate the new NOVA application process? I think I owe c£50 VAT (5% for vehicles >30yrs old and no Import Duty). But the old pre<2022 system has been replaced and private individuals either need to employ a Customs Agent or undertake training with a private provider and purchase software to access and complete the HMRC form.
So I’m looking for a low cost Customs Agent familiar with importing vintage motorcycle projects.
Many thanks
Steve

It used to be simple. Why it was changed is anybody's guess.
All that was needed was to report the vehicle arrival and pay the VAT. That is what the Red channel at the port was for. Why is it that as we modernise everything, it all becomes harder and much less efficient?
Write to your MP and complain.

Indeed. And to make it mandatory to employ the private sector to complete the complicated form you’ve created.
For anyone else going down this route in the future I’ll leave this here for reference:
This is the party line:
“ Since the introduction (in 2022) of the Customs declaration form on the new Customs ‘CDS’ system, you can no longer arrange the Customs clearance of your goods/item directly with HMRC. Now you will need to employ the services of a Customs broker.”
I’m getting help from ‘ukimportservices.com’. You register an account with them (very simple). Normal fees appear to be c£143 + whatever import duty and VAT is due on the vehicle.
From their correspondence:
What documentation do I need to provide for Customs clearance purposes?
A. Based on your circumstances, including the details and any documentation which you have provided to us during your enquiry to our office, you will need to provide some or all of the following documentation:
(Please note:
We only require clear copies, not necessarily the Original documents.)
+ Sales Invoice or Bill of Sale (showing seller/buyer/vehicle details, plus the purchase price/current value, country of origin)
+ Certificate of Title / Vehicle Registration Document (if available)
+ copy Photo ID e.g. Driving Licence, Passport etc. (private importers only)
So hopefully not as onerous as I thought. Perhaps.

Ming,
The NOVA process has been going on for years. The only change at the beginning was to pay VAT on the import. This is an out of control civil service and 650 MPs with an IQ of 1... between them...

Micky,
I think that you exaggerating the MPs IQ, everyone knows it’s at very best it’s minus 1 on a good day but they don’t have many of them.
Regards Pete.
