Date of Manufacture Letter?

Post by Cooklets »

Hi Everyone!
I've recently bought a 1975-ish Strada 350, which was imported by North Leicester Motorcycles in 2017. I have the reciept from NLM selling it on, and this has a NOVA number on it. However, when I tried to get a Registration Number from DVLA, they want a letter from an owners club to provide evidence of the date of manufacture.
I know that NLM used to provide such letters, but since their demise I wonder if the MRC might offer such a service. I'm happy to pay for the letter.
My bike has a frame number A/2 06261 and is a drum brake Strada.
The NLM reciept lists the 1st registration date as 01/01/1976, but the bike came with no original non-UK registration papers.
Any help gratefully received!

Dulcinea is suposed to be a 1974 Strada with the number A2 04186. I know bout a A2 06602 that is from 1975.
So your number at least matches with 1975 :D

Mike, the DVLA only recognise dating evidence from organisations they have approved. The club isn't on that list sadly. I think if you ask Chris Mayhew at Lusso Veloce you may get a result. You can get your MoT there at the same time. Chris is the son of Stuart Mayhew of NLM fame, and he is the owner of Lusso Veloce and trading from the old NLM premises. They have the old NLM records and also obviously the knowledge base from the old firm.

The Morini Riders Club is in the process of getting approval to issue dating letters.

Watch this space (but don't expect the cogs in Swansea to turn quickly) :)

FYI Lusso Veloce can still provide these letters (as NLM), for £48 a go.

Thanks again for your help!

At the risk of asking a stupid question; is this only for Moto Morinis or can the club provide a dating letter for other makes of bike too?

I’m Confused… there are other makes????

No, only Moto Morinis- it’s what we have records and expertise for, which is what the DVLA recognise

Out of interest getting on for 100 letters have been provided and this with out "help" files have enabled these bikes to become DVLA registered or NOVA listed with minimum effort

We are keen however to see and Italian documentation on machines you may have as this builds a better picture especially on early pre V singles

The sort of thing that is of interest is like this ...an original Italian certificate which in this case pins the machine (my Tresette) down totally to 1959

An e mail to the MRC Machine registrar with a copy of such a certificate will get you the Clubs official DVLA approved dating cert IF you also include frame and engine numbers and pictures of the bike from left and right.

Data like this really helps us.

Cheers ARTHUR

If the original licenseplate-number is known you can also request a "visura" for 6 euro's over here: https://visurenet.aci.it/#/avvisoRichiedentiStranieri
If anyone wants to try and needs a hand let me know, I've been in their office in Alessandria and they were very helpful.
