Yorkshire Dales trip

For the last 10 years our European travels have been aboard the good ship BMW1200gs with a luggage capacity of up to 3 weeks. During that time I've had many different 2nd bikes for Sunday Breakfast trips but none have remained as long (2 years) or got under my skin like Scrambler has.
Since my Wife passed her test 2 years ago pillion capacity has not been needed and this year we have no long trips planned due to our first Grandchild due anytime soon so the GS has been consigned to the back of the garage. The question is will the Scrambler be versatile enough for short UK breaks?

Sunday was our breakfast meet up at Fradley Junction so we planned to ride on from there to the Yorkshire Dales for a couple of days of walking.
Packing gear for riding, walking and evenings in the pub with enough to cover all weathers was a challenge but a tank bag, rear seat bag and rucksack was all we could carry.

The weather was good and although the route up from the midlands to Settle 'avoiding' motorways can be torturous, I only remembered to take 1 photo

The first planned walk was a 9 mile loop of Malham Cove

Free motorbike parking was a bonus so after getting changed we secured our bikes and gear with a wire rope plus padlock and set off for a bit of exercise.
Wild garlic smell soon had our mouths watering

We ended the day with a couple of hours riding the tiny roads through the middle of the Dales before heading back to the pub, day one mission accomplished.

Yes is the answer...
Get yourself up to Swaledale...
Scrambler is a very good bike. I notice MCN have a good word for the Milano, too!

Tuesday
Today was to be less scenic and more about sweating as we tackled Penygent.
Parking for motorbikes was free again=bonus, although we did donate our 2 days worth of parking fees to 3 ladies doing a charity walk for Cancer Research.

Wednesday was the 200 mile ride home via Hawes, Aysgarth, Bolton Abbey, Skipton etc etc.
To answer my original question ..... yes I think the Scrambler is versatile enough for the UK short breaks we have in mind for this summer so I've SORNed the GS for this year.

Lovely photos, thanks. (The proper habitat for a Heron is in the cylinder head of a Morini 3 1/2. )
