Battery almost empty

Post by jvhy »

Hello!

At May I got a new battery for my Corsaro and it was ok for awhile. Then there was like week and a half that I didn't ride at all. After that I tried to start the bike, but the battery was flat. Actually it was so flat that it didn't recharged anymore.

Ok, then I thought it was a bad battery and I got a new (Exide 18Ah) one for guarantee.

But now it seems I have this problem again. Today it was a second time that the new battery was so flat that it was impossible to start the bike. This time the bike has been standing at the yard for three days while I was at work trip. It has been quite rainy, but the bike has been under the hood all the time.

I don't believe that the battery is bad, there has to be something in bike that flattens the battery! And no, there's no alarm in bike...

Any clues what it might be? Does anyone has had same experienses?

Have you got an alarm on the bike? If not my advice would be to check if there is draw on your battery when the ignition is off, this can be done with an ammeter disconnect the battery positive then put the meter between the battery pole and the live lead you have just removed, if there is any reading (with ignition off) you have a drain somewhere………………… if you haven’t got a meter then disconnect the battery and get it tested or leave it disconnected for say 1 week and then reconnect if the battery has gone flat then it must be faulty

Thanks for advice!

Anyway I was going to make the measurements...Question was more 'cause I was thinking that maybe someone has had same kind of problems too!

I made the measurements today and found nothing. Everything was ok. Now I just have to check out the battery, that is it running empty by itself.

I'll let you know if I can find the reason!

Hi!

At the time it was warm (well, warm for us Finns anyway)! Since then it has been ok, the battery not the weather...This morning just 8C.

I think there was some moisture/dirt in some connector. Cleaned up and WD40'ed those a bit after that.

During the winter I will check out everything and maybe change some connectors while doing that. At least will put some connection grease in every one of them!
