Re: What Exhaust? RMS?
Hi Redplate.
I'm afraid I can't identify your exhaust system, and I don't know what RMS stands for. Still, I do love the blue colour of your bike. Is there a name for that shade of blue, or maybe a paint code?
Jenny.

Re: What Exhaust? RMS?
Thanks for having a look. In one of the other posts, there’s a system that looks close to this one marked as RMS but I just don’t know. It’s always nice to understand what we have! There seems no facility to post videos here but it does sound a, good, b er, illegal. Not really my style but it’s on so that’s that.
In keeping with the cheapo build of left overs, ebay universal parts & a touch of hand crafting, we have : B&Q ‘painters touch rustoleum’ gloss. £28 worth! It’s since cut back nice with a G3 scratch remover paste & Simoniz polish. I was looking for RAL5012 & it’s close but not marked on the rattle can. Trying to keep the build at less than £300. Pretty much on it.

Thinking breaking the budget & getting some vinyl go-faster stripes in front of the badge following the bend lines of the tank to balance out the white 3 1/2 on the side panels

Re: What Exhaust? RMS?
Yes, it is difficult to balance things out, especially as the 'MORINI' badge is quite small when compared to the '3 1/2' badge. Still, I'm sure you'll work something out. RAL 5012 is a lovely colour and you seem to be making good progress with your project. Hopefully someone will be able to identify the exhaust, although it could be a home made one-off. Best of luck with it all.

Re: What Exhaust? RMS?
The exhaust has some similarities to an RMS - the shape of the front downpipe and of the collector section under the engine; also they tend to be very loud. However the end of your exhaust has a reverse cone which I've not seen on any RMS I've had/got (I've currently got one on a 350 - borrowed from Tom Farrow - and one loose that's for the 500 engine and frame combination). You can see photos of a standard 350 RMS exhaust, owned by Tom as one of his spares, in viewtopic.php?f=34&t=7718
To try and help further, what's the aluminium looking clamp doing on the exhaust? And is the entire front downpipe and exhaust one piece? (that'd indicate it's more likely to be an RMS). Are there any markings/stamping on the exhaust (my RMS don't have any such markings, valentini exhausts do have valentini stamped on them AFAIK).

Re: What Exhaust? RMS?
Ok thanks. Some pointers for me. The rear cylinder’s down pipe is clamped at the bottom before it sweeps inboard & reaches the collector. The big clamp is (stainless, I ‘found’ it in the production line stores at work) just a, I hesitate to say this, ‘silencer’ clamp. What was there wasn’t up to much & even more ugly.
I’ve not seen any markings on it but then again, I’ve only had the ‘silencer’ off it & obviously not found one on that. It seems pretty well made & flowed at the collector well.

Re: What Exhaust? RMS?
Could you add a photo of the end of the exhaust looking 'into' the reverse cone i.e. end-on please and add it here? From looking at the initial photos of your morini the exhaust does look very much like an RMS exhaust, albeit modified. That's not surprising as they're pretty basic and over the years they sometimes get repaired, etc.Redplate wrote: ↑30 Jul 2024 18:15 Ok thanks. Some pointers for me. I've created a shared photo album https://photos.app.goo.gl/udsEkvLbTa43b4bp7 which currently has various photos of a tatty RMS system for the 500 models. The RMS system for the 350 road bikes is similar but a bit smaller. I've also included photos of a Valentini system for the 350 - the ends of the RMS and the Valentini are very different from each other. The RMS is a basic solid thin tube through a round backplate, the Valentini has a long perforated tube and presumably some additional baffles.

Does this help?

Re: What Exhaust? RMS?
There’s nothing in the end can at all. I’ve taken it off. There were remains of sheet steel at the joint to the down pipes. My guess is it’s a butchered RMS
