Mirror Mount

Post by Andy_C »

Not sure how the mirrors are mounted originally, but on mine the mirror mount i.e. the bit that carries the thread to screw the mirror into it is on the back half of the clamp that holds the brake lever / resevoir to the handlebars.

The issue is that the clutch lever clamp does not have the thread to take a mirror so I only have a mirror on the RH side.

I took a look on the Mdina website hoping to find a clamp for the clutch with a thread in it but no luck - anyone know if you can get a clamp specific to the Morini, or is it a case of trawling E Bay until I find something the right size?

I miss not having a LH mirror as all my other bikes have mirrors on both sides.

Thanks.

I fitted bar end mirrors. They vibrate a lot less than handlebar mirrors and I can see more road behind. Some are available that fold up if you need the space, as they do make the bike wider.

Clutch lever mounts with mirror bosses are available, and to be honest, when you bought a Morini in 1978 (and earlier) that's all you got.
No boss for RHS mirror. As a result, I'm with Mickey, with bar end mirror only.
If you want to keep your existing lever, why not try a 'wanted' ad?

I've used these on vintage Guzzis without means to mount mirrors.

All due resptect but I dont like bar end mirrors, I like old school handlebar mounted ones - perhaps I just like seeing multiple images of what is behind :D

Think I have found the solution, the clamp on the clutch on my Himalayan will fit and it has a threaded boss for the mirror, and it does not look too out of place .

Available from E Bay for a tenner.

Cheers.

I have a 1976 350 Strada that has the original chromed steel lever mounting clamps with no provision for mirrors. I drilled the clamps with an 8.5mm bit and tapped a 10mmx1.25 hole in each one. Although the steel clamps are not solid unlike alloy ones they're holding the 2 chrome aftermarket well so far. I also used a spring washer under the long top nut. If you're worried about them coming loose you can always screw them far enough through to put a nut underneath as well. I didn't do that and all's good so far.
