Electrical gremlins

Post by TimBell1962 »

Hi, having a problem with my 81 K model Sport.

Firstly, the bike would keep running after the ignition was switched off and had to be stopped on the kill switch.

Now, anything operated by the left hand switch gear, and the rear brake light switch, have all stopped working.

The starter, kill switch and front brake light are all fine.

The bike was with a dealer getting timing, cards and valve clearances as well as an MOT until recently. I didn't check if the electrics were as they should be, just road it a couple of metres down the road (may or may not be related)

Ive checked the fuse box under the side panel, three fuses, all fine. Ive split the switch gear, appears OK.

I really dont understand electrics, dangerous status with old Italian bike ownership, but suggestions please.

Are there any other online fuses (cant see any on the club wiring diagram) Could it be related to the ignition switch? Could it be a multi connector somewhere? (again, cant see one)

Yep sounds like ignition switch.

Get a new Honda Camino switch for about a tenner. You’ll need to work out which poles to connect to which wires and you may lose the parking light functionality (who uses that anyway) and you’ll need to make a new loom to go from switch to fusebox as the spades on the Camino switch are smaller than the original CEV one.

It’s worth the effort and not a big job. I’m sure we could provide assistance if you need.

Whatever you do MAKE SURE you have a diode fitted to the green wire between the ignition switch and fusebox. With a faulty ignition switch you risk sending 12V into the green wire which will kill your transducers.

Thank you. Looking at the supplier photos, the fitted switch looks identical to the PA50 Camino switch. As the bike was fitted with a lot of replacement parts, its feasible the current switch is already a chinesium part for the Camino. Ordered another anyway.
