350 K2 cam question

Post by smotorboy »

Hello All,
Smotorboy in California here, and I'm a new proud owner of a 1985 350 K2 with 10,800 miles on the clock.
I took it in to my local dyno (rolling road) guy and she pulled 26 Hp at 7800 rpm ...
Question ? does anyone have any cam information as to lift and duration on the different cams used in our 350 engine family ???
I'd like her to peak out at a higher rpm (like 8500 or so)...
I'm starting a long term race project with this bike (I've just entered retirement) and this is my "one day project".
Any helpful advice will be greatly appreciated,

Evguru will be along in a while with all the info on 'hot' cams. If racing, you will be trying to find a 2+2 or L5. If in a 350 capacity class you won't be able to go for 375 pistons, but they work very well if you can. Big carbs (28mm are good on a 350). Then there's the exhaust system to consider. 2 - 2 is usually considered the way to go.

Get the ignition system in to absolutely tip top condition as top of your list for 'tuning'.

I'd be interested to find what my 375 with L5 cam and PHB 28s pushes out on a dyno. It certainly revs well and having a 250 tacho on it makes me feel less guilty

I've got some of the cams specs on my website, but the more comprehensive list is on the Dutch club site;

http://www.motomoriniclub.nl/tabel.html

I remember Lambertini saying somewhere that there were problems with GT (Strada) and Sport engines actually getting the right spec components installed. The only significant differences were higher compression and a different cam and sometimes these would get mixed up. Later 350 engines all used the high compression pistons and at some stage the 'M' cam was fitted to all engines too. The fact that you're getting peak power at 7800rpm fits in with the red-line of 8000 of the lower/later spec engines, whilst the Sport red-line was 500rpm higher. In both cases the 'maximum safe rpm' was quoted as another 500rpm higher. Really that's more of an indication that it's pointless to rev higher since the engines seem to survive to 11,000rpm or more (certainly with the timing side roller bearing conversion).

Thank you all so very much,, this is exactly what I need to get started....

I will be glad to post my mods and results and time goes by.... If you Guys think you would find it of interest..

I tried to attach the dyno chart I have , but the file is too large for this post (256 k maximum ).... When I reduced the file size the resolution goes to crap-city..

If you'd like a copy of this chart and and future charts, just email me and be glad to send you a HD e-copy...

Many thanks again,
Smotorboy
