Tank Badges - The removing & Refixing of?

Hi again, folks.

I finally cleared enough space in the garage and am now launched on a repainting excercise as part of the preparations for getting it on the road next season.

It is a 1977 3.5 Sport and it has plastic tank badges without any screws.

What is my best method of getting them off for respraying and re-attaching them afterwards, please?

Thanks for any input,

The originals are held on with two small pins moulded into the back of the badge. Just slide a slim blade down behind and carefully prise them off. If you snap off the pins, use double sided tape when refitting.
It's good insurance to use double sided tape even if the pins are OK

When the MRC had some replacements made, we couldn't find anyone who could mould the pins onto the back so ours were flat.

We are low on stock and will be looking around for some replacements, anyone know of a supplier ??

Thanks for the info, Steve....

Much appreciated....

What is the score with the 3 1/2 sidepanel badges btw?

Stick them on with blu-tak.

Honestly! I had 3 1/2's from 1979 - 1996 and I restored one or two. If only the factory had done this originally there'd never have been so much of a problem with rust where the plastic pins fit into those funny little clips set into the tank.

Cracking bikes - my SV650S is OK but nothing matches Morini steering, although when Trevor Wise got the Elbymoto racers up to 135mph on the Island he did find there was a limit to what the chassis was designed for!!!

Happy days!

Thanks for offering that alternative, Jeff.

I will bear it in mind. :)

I slid a small trowel down the back & carefully edged them off....

They all pinged off without damage, so I count myself lucky on that score.
