Everyone should do this!

I recently had my carbs ultrasonically cleaned then fitted new jets, atomisers, needles and Dell Orto service kits. Boy, what a difference. This often-overlooked and relatively painless "upgrade" gave me such super-crisp throttle response, it's like a new(er)bike. Not surprising considering the totally manky condition of the old bits...
If you've no idea when the insides of your carbs last saw the light of day, you really should.
Job's a good 'un.
Happy riding, all.

Sounds good but expensive.

I did exactly this when I got my bike, with new air filters. I thought best start off with the thing as it should be, then I know what to expect.Apart from mismatching jets and a loose carb top all good.

Happily, just the opposite. I paid $NZ30 for the cleaning, (about 12ish quid) and the o/haul kits are something like 7 quid each from NLM, and you won't have trans-world postage to worry about. It's so transformative I'd have to ask, can you afford NOT to do it!?
I was pretty shocked at the condition of my old jets - I could hardly read the numbers - maybe the internals were fine but cheap replacements = maximum peace-of-mind. Additionally, it's such an easy job if you are methodical and write every screw setting down.
Another beautiful sunny winter's riding day here in Auckland.
Cheers,
Dom
