Just had that great moment when a project fires for the first time, great feeling!

But and there's always a but...

The wrist grip I'm using has the metal housing from an older pre-electic start one with the inner part from a later plastic electic start one. I've found this combo works but with the throttle closed there's about 4mm of tension on the cables that can't be adjusted out, so the carb are alway open!

NLM can't help with parts, has any one any thoughts?

The only thing I can think of is to cut 4mm off the cable outer.

Or does anyone have an early pre-electic start style twist grip they'd be happy to sell on?

I've come across this problem before. The detatchable plastic part (call it the cable holder) into which the cable outer cables fit has a couple of different versions with different depth holes. The throttle cables with inline adjusters can cope with the variation, but unless very well made (very few are) are rather inconsistent on cable tension and can lead to rough running as you come off idle.

It is possible to make the holes in the cable holder deeper (an end mill of suitable diameter is the right tool), but it's also possible to completely wreck the holder. You might be able to modify the internal stop, but cutting down the cable outers is probably the safest option. I've done if a few times, but these days I much prefer to simply make new cables to the correct length.

Thanks Paul, I'd considered the first two options, with the holder there's a hole part of the way down and perpendicular, I think that if I made the cable holes 4mm deeper I'd weaken it too much. As to the stop the line between gaining extra turn and having it go straight round (as someone in an earlier post had) is too fine.

So I've cut back an old set of cables and will give them a try, if that works I'll trim the new set.
