hello all, in need of a new ht cap , the duff one is ngk red in colour with 35 stamped on it , can i use one with a 5k ressistance as seen on ebay , as not to sure which one to buy might try local bike shop but need a part number to be sure. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Paul

you can just use these 5K's


and then replace the resistor by a massive copper rod

The 5K ones seem to work OK with a healty ignition system , but I prefer to use the 1K. They're available from on-line suppliers if you have a hunt around.

Hi, I think they're NGK SD01F, but I haven't seen them in the UK for a while. Must be some out there though.

just bought new ht cap ngk type, from local bike shop only a couple of quid, its a5k type all that were listed had a ressistor in them all 5k ,took duff one apart and found a ressistor in there put it across test meter and youve guessed it 5k, so it appears to have had ressistor suppresser caps on forever. bike now back in use, did like the idea of no ressistor might experiment with useing piece of copper as suggested, but i think i will leave for now as the 5k ones seem to be fine . the guy in the shop reckons it might be an issue if you were useing ressistor type spark plugs as well as caps. thanks all the help on this one. paul

If the resistor is OK its hard to think why it wouldn't work.

Not important. You can also get nil resistor caps, so to my knowledge they are either 0, 1k or 5k nohms.

You shouldn't need resistor plugs as has been mentioned. Just be aware that fancy plugs like platinums have resistance in them too. A standard Platinum has about 1.3k ohm give or take.

Morini ignition has been designed to work without resistor... using resistor caps retards and lengthens the spark a bit. does not hurt as long as you set your ignition spot on with the caps attached

I invested in the necessary and expensive heavy duty crimping tool to be able to make up my own non-resistor HT leads/caps which have been a success on my Strada. I have put an advertisement in the Bikes and Bits for Sale section should anyone be interested in having a set.
