Hi guys

Well I decided I needed to take the old gal out for a ride yesterday. I took it for a short ride to warm up the oil to change it.

I found the clutch was a little sticky and gear changes were a little sad especially with a right side gear shift! I'll look at adjusting it soon..... Any advice?

When I drained the oil it ran out like water and noticed it smelt of fuel. Oh and funny enough the posting re black liquid looks exactly the same as what I drained out of my oil sump.

I am assuming that the carbs let fuel into the cylinder amd down into the sump. Would I be correct in this assumption?

If so how can I test and fix this issue?

Hi Ponch,
I don't know about the clutch but re the fuel, your assumption sounds correct. So here, allow my recent nightmare to guide you
First, check your floats are sound (ie, not holed) and pivot reeeeal nice, their heights are adjusted to 10mm and also that the needles are properly seated, the tips of each one are not eroded and that their seats are in good condition. Better yet, just replace them. Also, get in the habit of remembering to turn off the fuel tap between rides, if you use it.

Re. the clutch - take off the outer panel and take the clutch plates out. That way you can check to see if oil is getting past the seals and contaminating the plates. Oh, I assume that it is adjusted correctly .....

Thanks for the advice. I have been looking on the WWW and can't find any replacement parts for my dellortos. Can you please tell me where you got yours from and I'll order in two kits.

Hi Ponch, I got some bits from NLM, some from our local Dell Orto importer in New Zealand and there's also Eurocarb:- http://www.dellorto.com
Australia is also a good place to look, as there are lots of Ducati (therefore Dell Orto) folk there.
Basically I replaced everything brass or rubber and installed new gasket kits too. Top job!
