Jointing sealant

Righto since the seize up I am now putting the 350 back together.Gearbox shafts in and looking as though its working,so that was my main worry. What's the gasket goo of choice?All I currently have on my shelf is Hylomar,which I will need for the clutch shaft later I gather,and some clear instant gasket cement.

If you really want to you can get hold of Arexons Motosil D from Italy!
Hermatite instant gasket works fine and is a similar orange colour to give that 'untouched engine' look. Some poeple fork out a lot of money for something like Yammabond.
Whatever you come to use the secret is don't use too much. A bead of less than 1mm diameter around the crankcase joint is more than enough.
If it's squeezing out of a joint on the outside of the cases, it's also squeezing into the cases.
Ideally, you would just barely see a line of sealant at the joint. The same aplies to the cylinder base and head gaskets.
The rocker gaskets and crankcase cover go on without sealant, but I like to use a little oil or grease to help them seat. Grease has the advantage of helping hold things in place.

Thanks for that. I am wise to the "don't use too much " thing, having rebuilt a few old beemers where you must avoid blocking the cylinder studs,down which oil returns to the sump.
All oil seals replaced but I am waiting for my flywheel plug which is reluctant to return home from the menders.
