Alternator rewind.

Just out of interest.. Does anybody know how much it would cost to have an alternator professionally rewound, and also the rotor re-magnetised?

Hi,

Don't know about rewind cost as I wind my own, but just called NLM today and they charge £25 for a rotor remag. Also they have a full test rig so if you take your stator, rotor and regulator along they can advise what part is faulty. I am considering taking my rotor along to have it remag'd

I am going to be rewinding my stator plates over the next week or so and hope to go up there in a couple of weeks, I will post reply after visit.

Completed my rewind and was getting well over 60vac (approx 67 volts ac) from coils between 4000-6000 unfortunately still not enough power to drive my lighting, so i have decided to cut my losses and give up on the original generator solution. I have taken the plunge and ordered a 190w 'special' stator and rotor from MZ-B, I have asked them to include an ignition pole with their coil and will use this to power my original ignition gear. I will measure the coil resistance and make adjustments as required. I will advise how I get on.

Hi,

Update on the MZ-B system, it was a 'special' system consisting of a 190w stator with modified rotor. Unfortunately despite best efforts of both MZ-B (their after sales support is excellent, thank you Edgar) and myself could not get the rotor to fit without the magnets touching the stator coils. The system uses a system of 3 mounting plates (which appears over complex, but allows fitment to many different models) and this appears an area where alignment issues can occur. The quality of build appeared very good and it is a shame I could not get it to work, so I am back to considering a flywheel remag and convert the stop/tail and indicators to led. I did retain the MZ-B regulator which appears to offer better voltage regulation than my Royal Enfield effort.
