regulator rectifier for ser 1 350 sport, will a jap one do?

Hello,

I'm new on the forum, I've had a morini for a while. but have only just got it back on the road after it's been residing near Torino for thirty years; anyway, my bike doesn't seem to be recharging the battery, it could be the alternator or it could be the reg/rectifier, I've not got testing equpt to establish which and I wouldn't know how to use them anyway!

If I look at the reg/rectifier first, I've read on the web somewhere that there's possiblities to use Honda superdream or cx500 equivalent? It might be a good idea to pick up one from a breakers to test/replace the unit?

This might be a subject that's been discussed before in the MRC, I don't know, but can anyone advise if this could be a reasonable route to take?

Alternative, does anybody have the knowledge to electrically test this bike and lives near me, Sth Mcr/Cheshire? Thanks in anticipation.

Looking under the heading 'charging system'

Regarding the regulator, most japanese regulators are 3 phase and the morini is single or split phase. I used a royal enfield regulator previously but have just fitted a unit from MZ-B which seems to keep the output rock solid at 14.5v DC. Link to MZ-B below:-

My 350 has a Jap regulator fitted (ex kawasaki 1100 3 phase). Simply connected the 2 yellow wires to the regulator and used 2 diodes instead of 3.
Should note that I have a later electric start type alternator without the centre tapping.
