Hi ya, firstly welcome back. Secondly, sadly no, i think the cut off date for Historic (or fee!) tax is jan 1972. So unfortunately it isn't free. I think from memory its about £35 per year for a 350cc.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

It was originaly 25 years old, but then they introduced a cut-off date.
You wouldn't want Morris Itals and Austin Allegros becoming historic vehicles would you?
I think it's one year later; Jan 1973.
It's based on when a machine was made, not when it was registered.

Its now back to a rolling 40 year basis (2016) . just taxed my newly bought 1975 Sport ,Post office wouldn't let me do it as Historic so I paid the £39.00 ,a month later I finally got the V5 and a letter saying it should be Historic and I will get a refund!

My Strada's official 40th birthday is next week: from the frame number it would have been built in 1975 but it was registered in Oct 76. I ought to find out what to do when the next tax is due.

As long as the build date is 1975 your bike should qualify for Historic Tax category . Not sure if you will have to notify DVLA for a change of category or if they will notify you .
