Ignition Pick Ups

Where to start..well I'm back in the west of Ireland - no Morini fraternity round here so thank God for the MRC website.
Ok well I'm thinking of getting some of the new ignition pick ups from NLM. Why? - bike has started to misfire at high revs, though is still as always been very easy to start. Last year I rode up from London (in the pissing rain) to NLM just for a looksee and to get him to fit a new timing belt (from George Lane). He (Alex) checked the ignition timing and told me rear cyl. spark was retarding on accelaration which is obviously wrong, said something in the ignition system is on the way out but you can't tell you just have use trial and error ie changing each bit of the system (pick up, coils and transducer) to find where the fault is. One presumes he knows what he's talking about.Thus I thought my recently developed high speed misfire may be a further degradation. So I considered trying the new pick ups, as even if they are not needed they claim to be improvement on the original. I can't afford all the new parts in one go so thought that might be a good place to start.
Any comments, suggestions or cautions, alternatives tips or anecdotes related to this would be greatly received.
