Need a new ignition switch

Post by Fastmongrel »

The key in my Strada doesn't lock in place. Found this out on Sunday when I caught the key halfway to freedom.

Hi,
I think you will need a 6 wire one. From memory the switch connects the side lights for normal riding as well as parking.
Have known to be wrong though.

Thanks for the link I did search for ignition switch but I don't think the search function is very good.

Ordered a generic version from eBay I couldn't find a genuine Honda part.

I am going to see if I can fit the ignition switch up front and visible while riding there's a space between the clocks and handlebars or maybe to the headlamp shell. It's not a genuine Morini headlight so don't mind a bit of plastic surgery.

New ignition switch and a half finished bracket to attach to the clock mount. Need to make up wiring to attach to the original ignition switch harness so it can be put back to original if wanted

Didn't the K2 have the switch on the left of the instrument console? If so, would the wiring loom be more suitable?

I have fitted the ignition switch to the right so that it doesn't foul the clutch cable. I wanted to fit it centrally but there isn't any room.

Thanks it luckily just fits. I have put a sleeve cut from a mountain bike inner tube on the body so hopefully it shouldn't rub against anything or rattle. I am making the wiring now I was thinking of colour matching to the original wires but then I found out how much wire costs these days so it's all going to be green with masking tape labels.

Neat solution.

I’m sure you know, but make very sure you include a diode in your wiring extension loom on the (actual) green wire.

This is to prevent a fault in the ignition switch putting battery voltage onto the green wire supplying the transducer, which will kill your transducers.

If it were me I would fit the diode at the fusebox end (like the original should have been) as this will also protect your transducers if ever your new wires got mis-connected or damaged.

I connected to the original ignition wiring system and nothing was removed so if there was a diode in the wiring it will still be there. However if I do need to fit a diode what type should I get.

I get my cable from vehicle wiring products and did not think the cost prohibitive. Still an elegant job

The diode is normally inline between the green wire from the ignition switch and the fusebox, at the fusebox end. But it’s often missing. If you need to add a new one then see this post for some suggestions:
