Morini Newby first impressions of the bike

Post by Andy_C »

Only done a few miles on my 3 1/2 so far due to fettling and weather.

I have to say so far it lives up to expectations.

Brakes are brilliant - mine is a Strada with double disks so guess someone must have fitted the extra disk.

It also has the Sport Engine - there is an S stamped on the cases where it should be.

Performance is great, it has a surprising amount of grunt at low revs for such a small engine, also pleased with how little is vibrates - in fact hardly at all. Also as has been said it revs like a 2 stroke.

Handling feels really taught - had to tighten up the headstock bearings as I could feel some play. I dont find the suspension to harsh - forks are a bit firm, but rear is fine, still has the OE Marzocchis fitted as far as I can tell.

Comfort, have not really been far enough on it yet to make a decision, but feels pretty good and is a good fit for me - I am about 5' 7".

Only downside is the RH gearchange - not ridden a RH change for along time, having said that gear selection is spot on, I can even fine neutral without too much bother, clutch is also pretty light, although not as light as my Triumph Speedmaster or Enfield Himalayan.

So yes, pretty pleased I think this bike and I have a future.

Roll on Spring / Summer 2025 so I can get some serious miles in on it as I wont be riding it much over the Autumn / Winter.

P.S. Love the clunky / laid back electric starter, clunk, whirr, turns over a few times before firing.......love it.

P.P.S Must join the MOC as well as this board has been a great help so far.

Welcome - glad you like the bike! If you can't get on with the gear change I know someone who would snap it up...

Joining the Riders Club is a good move - discount off spares as well as a great magazine.

Good riding, and maybe see you next year at the SW show at Shepton Mallet?

I am sure that I will soon master the RH gearchange - I have had enough air cooled Brits in my time !

Shepton Mallet is only about 5 miles form me and I usually visit the show so will look up the MRC when I am there.

Cheers.

Good on you - and thanks for joining the Club as well...

Used to live at Glastonbury - some great Morini roads out your way, it's probably time I got down there again - we're out of proper Cheddar!

Good riding.

I am just a couple of miles away from Glastonbury in Street.

Lived in Somerset my entire life as have generations of my Family.

Yes there some pretty good roada around here for riding - would not really want to live anywhere else.

Plenty of cheese available.........

John - next time you are down this way go to a place called Mudgley, which is near Wedmore, and look for Wilkins Cider.

https://wilkinscider.com/ - It really is good stuff !!
