Rear Spindle Washers Wire Wheel Strada

Hi, I'm looking for two of the washers that go on the rear spindle, the Stub Axle Washer (43.05.31) and 43.05.70, neither of which were on my bike. Does anyone have examples I couple borrow to copy, the measurements or even items for sale? Thanks in advance.

Sorry I can't help with replacements or measurements but they should be easy to get with a vernier etc. What I can say is that I've seen these bikes turn up with different width nuts on both stations, and some without washers if the nuts are too wide to allow room. The stub axle in particular I've seen a 'wide' variety, self locking and plain. If yours has spare thread enough for washers then plain steel (or stainless if you prefer) washers from the usual places should be available.

Also it's worth checking with members like Tom Ros in the Netherlands and Ian Lucas in SW UK as they both recently had large amounts of NOS bits and bobs, too many to catalogue/list!

Hi Andy,
If you mean a washer between stub axle nut and chain adjuster, also between axle nut and end of stub axle, then neither of my '78 350's have them. My Sport I've had from new, whilst my Strada had been off the road since 1981 and was complete and seemingly unmolested when I got it so I'm pretty sure that they were never fitted. My bikes aren't any worse for their not being there so I wouldn't worry.

On my K1 there is a washer behind the large nut and another behind the small nut. Been like it at least since 2011.

Some trivia; The standard "big nut" normally has a washer machined onto it, thats the end thats meant to press up against the chain adjuster.

Having a washer under the "small" nut is easy, a regular metric washer will be fine, because the small nut bears on the small washer and they tighten onto the end of the stub axle for the sprocket carrier.

A bit more tricky putting a washer under the "big" nut. If it's too thick the big nut will stand up beyond the end of the stub axle and prevent the small nut from tightening its washer onto the end of the stub axle. You may think thats not a problem and it all tightens up anyhow, but with the big nut raised too much it would be a problem because the small washer will only be able to bear on a small portion of its face because the hole up the middle of the big nut won't support the rest of it. So it won't tighten against the thing that its supposed to.

Ok it would tighten up BUT not like its supposed to.
