Morini Newby - Spark Plugs

Probably fit a new set of plugs to the bike since I have no idea how long the existing ones have been in there.

Over the years I have taken to fitting iridium plugs to all my bikes, I swear they seem to run better with them in.

Whats the general opinion, stick with basic NGK or similar, or fit iridiums?

Another question, resistor plugs or non resistor?

I use NGK BP7EVX. Platin not Iridium. But maybe dificult to find. There wäre rumors that not being produced anymore

I've used iridium plugs in some bikes too. They do seem to have benefits and I would use them in a Morini again if I could find any without built in resistors. NGK iridiums all come with the resistor and ND at least used to make them without resistor, but I haven't seen any for a while.
If you have the standard Morini CDI ignition it's the perceived wisdom that you need HT leads, caps and spark plugs without any resistors built in to them. (ignorant of this I have used resistor caps and plugs and not known any difference-mind you, I did used to get through a lot of transducers in those days.. :? Connected? I dunno!)
If you have a battery powered system like Sachse or SWF then you may actually benefit from resistor plugs and caps and definitely not lose any performance.

Authentic plugs not fake. I have used NGK BP7ES and since 2022 Denso IW22. The latter are now 2 years old and show no deterioration. I had 5 KOhm caps and now have 1 Kohm.
Never noticed any difference.
Fake plugs may demonstrate peculiar resistance when tested.

Used Denso plugs for years and never had problems

Currently I use the Green Spark Plug Company, great thechnical support and told me to avoid new really fancy electrode plugs as designed for fuel injection systems, they foul up with older manual choke engines using modern fuel with the deposits nearly impossible to remove.

So I think it will be NGK BP7ES.

That is what it currently has fitted - I'll buy 4.

2 to be fitted now, the other 2 kept as spares under the seat.

I have heard a lot about counterfiet NGK plugs - did see an article on what to look for, the green sparkplug company has a good rep so probably get the plugs from them.

Can’t speak for the Green company but yes, avoid cattle markets like eBay etc. Been in the trade most of my life and the fake level is very high, particularly amongst ‘trusted’ brands. At our shop we’ve seen some disastrous results from fakes: melting electrodes, cracking or porous porcelain, monkey metal seizing the threads, all causing expensive damage. Buy from your local shop or an online you’re certain sell the real thing-not worth the risk otherwise..
