Valve clearance

Post by mad muller »

Hello all, noticed ex valves have closed up a bit , when I checked tappets , engine cold. Should I be putting additive in the petrol , I have never bothered last time I did them was 5k miles ago the inlet valves were spot on only ex valves a bit tight , I use shell petrol , any thoughts , ps the petrol is the shell max or something that's supposed to be better than the norm unleaded piss they sell at the forecourts nowadays . My Sport has now 80000 on the clock- 48000 were Km then a converter was fitted . I have only had one slightly tight clearance last time I checked. That is a February job.
I try and use the E5 fuel and chuck some Valvemaster in ( to make me feel better). Current formulation is supposed to stabilise ethanol.

That's jogged my memory when I bought the bike it came with a half bottle of valvemaster , me being me the doubting Thomas I never bothered, I will get some for peace of mind , maybe ex haust valves run hotter so a bit more ware in the valve seat , I could never get my head round thrre being no valve stem seals and no forced oil supply to the rocker shafts , but that's the way of world, and it works, will keep an eye it tuto gas at the moment , if its not broke dont brake it , ta muller .

I don't care about gasolin additives since about 70.000 km without trouble.
When loosing clearance repeatedly I would suggest to have a Look at valve seats, Wetter they are entering in the head
