1977 350 Sport Battery

Hi Folks, I'm about to start recommissioning my 1977 350 Sport. It needs a few things and as it's been under a cover a few years now I'm sure there will be a few gremlins to sort. There could well be a few questions coming in the near future...
First job is to source a new battery so I can go through the electrics. I have no record of what was fitted when I got the bike, or, if it was the correct size anyway and it's long gone to recycling.
I've had good usage out of Motobatt batteries on my other bikes and wondered if anyone has one fitted to their 350 Sport.
Alternatively, any advice regarding which or what batteries will fit would be really appreciated.
The battery box is about 138mm by 79mm and I've looked through the list at Tanya batteries and there's a few that might fit in and a lot that would have to sit on top of the base with suitable packing !
It would be good to know what to go for that works well.
Thanks in advance...

Hi there.

We are in a similar situation. I am slowly recommissioning my 1983 K1 Sport which has long since had the electric start gubbins removed. I can't remember what battery was on the bike when it last ran in 2013.

I am planning to fit a Motobatt MB9U from Tayna. I can't give you a verdict on the Morini, but I had an MB9U on my Honda CB175 which had an electric start and it was absolutely fine.

Let's hope we get some opinions..

Hi,
I have no experience of Motobatt, but the original size battery was a 12N9-4B, ie 12v 9Ah.
This suggests that the MB9U as Jen suggests would be correct size.
That said, how long does everything last?
An AGM battery of the same size is 1/3 the cost of a Motobatt, and the ones I have experience of have lasted well over 5 years in non e/s bikes and are still going strong.
Regards,
George

Go with what George says, there are plenty of decent quality AGM batteries available with the same dimensions as the original 12N9 type.

Good sound advice there. Now I know what I'm looking for, size and capacity wise, I can get one ordered.
I might have owned the bike for a few years now but not really got to grips with it. Looking forward to changing that.
Many thanks and until the next request for help.....
Cheers
Gareth

Hi,
I recently fitted a Motobatt MB9U on my 77 Sport. Been very pleased with it. Think I paid just under £60 delivered next day to me. Came with some handy pads for the bottom of the tray. Went for the brand as I had one on a previous bike and it lasted years and years.
