500 rearsets tech. drawings.
Has anybody out there made their own rearsets and plates for a 500 ? Got any drawings/specs I could use, or advice/photos etc ? Are there any on the forum anywhere ?

Hi Steve.
I don't have any dimensions but I have attached a photo of the set that was on my 3½. If you are making everything from scratch it can be made much simpler than the Tarozzis. You don't need the vernier adjustment, just make everything to suit your preferred foot position.
Basically all you need to make are two vaguely triangular mounting plates, with holes to line up with the swing arm spindle and the standard footrest mount and a third hole for where you want the footrest to be (exhaust permitting on the left hand side). Ready made brake and gear levers are available or, in their simplest form, could be cut from some 10mm alloy sheet, hours of fun with hacksaw and files, also ready made toe pegs and foot pegs (or turn your own). Also you will need to rig up a return stop for the brake lever, positioned to suit your own comfort. A new rod for the gear change linkage will need to be made. I used stainless rod on mine and you do need to put a kink in it to clear the engine case. Rose joints etc. are widely available.
The supplier I used to use for rearset parts has now retired, but here are a couple of links...

Good luck.

Oh, and at the risk of sounding obvious, the left peg needs to be of the fold up type and you will need a kick start lever extender, available from ollyzzz on ebay.

Hi Jen, don’t worry, I find it’s always best to state the obvious. We’ve all forgot to switch on ignition / turn on fuel / check kill switch etc. Most embarrassing when it’s pointed out to you !!
As regard the rear sets, luckily I have a good friend who is a Billy Wizz on the lathe and fabrication. Used to work for Colin Seeley and Paul Dunstall among others. I’m just hoping to quicken the process by supplying dimensions. He’s got a lot of his own projects to work on.
Cheers,
Steve.

Hi Steve.
Well, it sounds as though your friend is exactly the sort of friend you want.
I've a feeling that I have a couple of rearset mounts stashed away somewhere. The triangular plates that is. They are horrible things that have been re-welded more than once but I used to use them on track days. If I can find them tomorrow I will take some measurements.
Jenny.

Hi Richard, just got back from the Welsh Meet, settled down with a cup of tea to watch the football. Thanks for the drawings and dimensions, will be a great help.

Well, that's interesting. The samples in Richard's files look very much like mine, right down to the casting mark on the brake side mounting plate. I have no idea what make they are and can't even remember where I got them from.
There is some discrepancy with the dimensions but I've measured mine as best I can.
