Camel 501 (II) brake pedal

Having changed the obese starter flywheel crankcase cover for the slimmer non ES version I find the brake pedal sticking way out in the breeze.
Of course with the old cover my right boot was snug up against it, now my foot seems cranked out to the right at an awkward and dangerous angle , easier to catch unwanted scenery etc..
My question is : is my pedal bent? ( nothing to compare it to ) some how I doubt it , it's the same metal as the gear change lever and the kickstart, very hard steel.
If it isn't , will heating and bending it compromise tensile strength?
I would prefer the crank in the pedal closer to the engine.
Any thoughts on this appreciated!
